MASS Ⅱ
BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKEのウィンドウディスプレイのために制作した什器。2018年に開催された「Material Design Exhibition」で発表した、見る角度によって透過性が変化する「塊」をモチーフとした箱のシリーズ「MASS」の考え方を応用。コンクリートのテクスチャーを印刷した目の細かなポリエステルメッシュでアクリルボックスを覆っている。メッシュの特性上、斜めから見ると不透明に見え、正面から見ると中が透けて見える効果がある。重く不透明なコンクリートがもつイメージに対して、軽さと透明性という真逆の性質を感じる認知的不協和を実体化した。
MASS Ⅱ is a series of display stands for BAOBAO ISSEY MIYAKE’s window displays. We applied our past work “MASS” – a series of boxes in the motif of “mass,” which change their transparency depending on the angle they are seen from- into display stands. Acrylic cubes are covered with fine mesh materials with printed concrete texture. Because of the nature of the fine mesh, there is a unique effect; what appears to be a solid piece of mass when looked at from an oblique angle turns into a box with a view to its inside when approached from the front. We realized the cognitive dissonance by mixing the nature of lightness and transparency with image of heavy and opaque concrete.
